Job Description
General decontamination work as required, including disinfecting in active area, decontamination of equipment and facilities, handling and packaging of radioactive waste, routine contamination checks; monitoring of protective clothing, and equipment removed from Active Area.
This position is deemed a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW). A Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) is defined by the Nuclear Safety and Control Act as a person who is required, in the course of the person’s business, or occupation in connection with a nuclear substance or nuclear facility to perform duties in such circumstances that there is a reasonable probability that the person may receive a dose of radiation that is greater than the prescribed limit for the general public (1 mSv per year for the whole body).
Key Responsibilities
- Keep accurate records of routine monitoring results;
- Perform daily cleaning, inspection and testing of containers, inserts and overpacks; enter package inspection results on computer program; load and unload waste trailer
- Assist Radiation and Contamination Monitors when needed.
- Be required to perform some or all of the duties of the decontamination helper.
Qualifications
- Normally a Grade 12 Post Secondary School Diploma combined with one year experience as a Decontamination Helper
- Must be able to read and understand technical procedures.
Additional Requirements
- Availability to work the required shift(s) and overtime
- Lift and carry up to 10kgs on an occasional basis.
- Good manual dexterity and grip strength
- Push and pull carts with a force of up to 25kgs on an occasional basis
- Able to wear a respirator potentially for extended periods of time
Training Required: Must complete all required training and certification as a Nuclear Energy Worker
